2024-25 NBA regular season second edition of the Red and Black List (11.6-11.19) is here, and this column will be updated every two weeks.
Red List:
Towns/Knicks
In this period, they won 4 games and lost 3 games. He played an average of 34.4 minutes per game, scoring 30.4 points, grabbing 9.7 rebounds, dishing out 3.4 assists, making 0.9 steals, and blocking 0.9 shots per game. He shot 55.8% from the field, 48.9% from three-point range, and 81.8% from the free-throw line.
After the hype of the off-season trade for Towns died down, news about him has been quiet. It's great to see Towns using his skills and performances to shine once again.
Fox/Kings
In this period, they won 4 games and lost 4 games. He played an average of 37.4 minutes per game, scoring 32.9 points, grabbing 4.8 rebounds, dishing out 5.8 assists, and making 1.4 steals. He shot 52.2% from the field, 41.3% from three-point range, and 82.5% from the free-throw line.
Scoring 60 points in one game and combining for 109 points in two games, although it's a small sample size, we can still feel the signal from the fox saying, "This is just the beginning."
Vonleh/Spurs
In this period, they won 3 games and lost 3 games. He played an average of 31.7 minutes per game, scoring 27.2 points, grabbing 10.7 rebounds, dishing out 2.5 assists, making 1.3 steals, and blocking 3.5 shots per game. He shot 51.7% from the field and 43.5% from three-point range.
When his three-point shooting improves, the troubles that have been bothering Vonleh seem to be easily solved. Now, the question is, what aspect does he need to improve next?
Daniels/Hawks
In this period, they won 4 games and lost 3 games. He played an average of 37.6 minutes per game, scoring 17.0 points, grabbing 5.6 rebounds, dishing out 3.6 assists, making 4.4 steals, and blocking 1.4 shots per game. He shot 43.9% from the field, 24.2% from three-point range, and 73.3% from the free-throw line.
No, this is not the Black List. With four consecutive games of 6+ steals, do you remember which player was able to "explode" defensive statistics? If the team record can be guaranteed, Dyson Daniels will be a strong contender for both the DPOY and MIP.
Black List:
Vincent/Lakers
In this period, they won 5 games and lost 1 game. He played an average of 18.6 minutes per game, scoring 3.2 points, grabbing 1.0 rebounds, and dishing out 0.5 assists. He shot 25.9% from the field, 16.7% from three-point range, and 50.0% from the free-throw line.
Good news: Vincent played. Bad news: it's like he didn't. Take a look at his stats in nearly 20 minutes of playing time.
Lowry/76ers
In this period, they won 3 games and lost 4 games. He played an average of 25.1 minutes per game, scoring 3.0 points, grabbing 2.1 rebounds, and dishing out 3.4 assists. He shot 18.8% from the field, 8.7% from three-point range, and 87.5% from the free-throw line.
He had 3 scoreless games in this period and hasn't made a single three-point shot in the last 4 games. Standing alongside Vincent, he seems to have the potential to be a hidden talent, but shouldn't we have higher expectations for Lowry? After all, he is the starting point guard for the 76ers since Simmons got injured.
Sarr/Wizards
In this period, they lost all 7 games. He played an average of 26.0 minutes per game, scoring 9.7 points, grabbing 4.3 rebounds, dishing out 2.9 assists, making 1.0 steals, and blocking 1.4 shots per game. He shot 34.2% from the field and 20.0% from three-point range.
In order to test Sarr's abilities, the Wizards moved the legitimate starting center Valančiūnas to the bench, allowing this former lottery pick to start at the five. While maintaining low efficiency on the offensive end, Sarr's defense is not as good as rumored, as the Wizards still have a defensive rating of 120.3, which is the highest in the league.
Dwindle/Mavericks
In this period, they won 3 games and lost 4 games. He played an average of 17.7 minutes per game, scoring 3.0 points, grabbing 1.1 rebounds, and dishing out 1.7 assists. He shot 26.9% from the field, 25.0% from three-point range, and 75.0% from the free-throw line.
At 31 years old, Dwindle seems to have entered the twilight of his career. His scoring ability, which was once his bread and butter, is nearly nonexistent (a career-low 4.1 points per game, including his rookie season). He hasn't made much of an impact in other areas either.
